Prospecting

Prospecting is a popular pastime in Western Australia which can take people to remote parts of the state.  Both prospecting and fossicking require a Miner’s Right which can be obtained from the Department of Mines for a fee of $26.50.  A Miner’s Right must be obtained prior to commencing prospecting activities.

Safety whilst in remote areas is paramount and we recommend that you visit the Department of Mines website to ensure you are prepared.

When prospecting on a pastoral lease, please ensure you take all reasonable and practical steps to notify the pastoralist about where you plan to operate and for how long.  Pastoralist information can be obtained by contacting the Department of Mines.
